These rare habitats are often lost to pine plantations or development. One dune heath site affected in this way is part of the Sefton Coast known as the Triangle and Freshfield at Formby, Merseyside. WebClematis vitalba seeds are dispersed by the wind and colonise disturbed ground easily. It is native to the south of England but it has spread across the UK, and further north it is considered an invasive species, and it is not native to sand dune habitats.
